Title: Extra Baggage Allowance

Peter n Joan - May 16, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Hi All

Now that we have sold the house, flogged off most of what we don't need, told the families and I've put my notice in at work - it's time to organise the flights.

We have heard many times that some airlines allow you double baggae allowance when you are migrating - can anyone let us know which airlines do this? :dunno:

Your help will be appreciated

Peter N Joan

Best one is Singapore Airlines.

And congrats on your progress. Sounds like you're doing really well. :flowers:

We are flying with Singapore and we got them to email us confirming we are entitled to 40kg luggage allowance :)

We flew with Singapore but I can't remember what we were allowed now only that we were entitled to double the allowance if this is the first time you were entering Australia on your visa - another words if you have validated it before now you can't get the extra allowance.

Singapore airlines will usually grant a 40kg baggage allowance to holders of a PR visa who are using the visa for the first time, you must have authorisation of the allowance in writing, for this you will usually have to provide Singapore Airlines with a copy of your visa stamp. This is not guaranteed unless in writing as allowance is granted subject to load on the aircraft.

Emirates also offer something similar (or used to) but i think it was 35kgs.

Also if you are planning on a stopover in Singapore, make sure the baggage confirmation also confirms that you can take the extra amount from Singapore to Aus. Lots of people have come unstuck because their e-mails didn't mention it and Singapore Air in Singapore tried to get excess baggage money.

Exciting

Spot on Pen, the rules at Singapore Airlines are that you are only permitted the 40kg baggage allowance if not stopping over.
