Nearly 2 years and nearly able to apply for citizenship  I'm so excited as we have about 10 people all going for it at the same time so we are booking the mayor to hold the ceremony down on the beach :more: :ecstatic:

Sam.... i don't think you get an option on location, just wherever your local shire holds it.

congrats Sasha, it really is a very proud moment when you stand up there and can call yourself an aussie

I had my citizenship interview at beginning of Jan and was told there was a wait for police checks to come back. I am still waiting! I phoned them last week and they were really unhelpful, just said it was being processed and I would hear within three months!!!! I tried to explain it had already been three months but they were not interested. I still have no idea when I will be having the ceremony. Aparently our local council only holds them every three months, so it could be another six months before I become a citizen!

My husband had his interview last week, whats the betting he gets to have his ceremony before me

Well just remember to log all the questions you are asked as I'll be looking to you lot for the answers !! Have already started to learn the national anthem !

We are now 1/3 of the way to applying for our citizenship and that's flown by ! Just don't need any trips back to the UK to have to happen to extend it !

I'll be watching your countdown with interest Sasha.

I'm not completely sure on the process as some here get their interviews at the Post Office and some in Perth. They do say though that you can nominate where you want your ceremony to be and you are then put on the waiting list, so I guess it depends how popular the place is how long you have to wait. The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned :D

Not long now Sasha

WOOO HOOOO I can't wait to make it all official as I'm still pinching myself how lucky we are being here in Australia and it feels like only yesterday that we arrived.

Can I ask those of you that have been through it all before what happens as in do you all have to go and get citizenship or is it like the visa the main applicant goes for it and the rest of you instantly get it??? - I know a bit late to be thinking about these things but it suddenly struck me I hadn't got a clue

You all have to go for it Sasha, it will cost both you & hubby for the application then you name the kids on the application form. I don't think it costs for them to be added.
At the actual ceremony when its your turn they will call out each of your names & you go up to recieve your citizenship, they normally call up around 10 families at a time.
If its same as down here you will get your certificate & your plant & the kids will get a little flag.

Bridiej - April 23, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
I think our ceremony will be on Australia Day next year as we can apply in October but they only do the ceremonies four times a year.

Snappy - April 23, 2007 05:45 AM (GMT)
We must be lucky then as we can book our ceremony whenever we like so long as the mayor is happy to come along. It must be the country area and not many people go for it here or something

Off to do my forms now :D
