Title: Timeframes for DIAC
Professional Princess - March 9, 2007 11:02 AM (GMT)
Dont know if anyone can help but its worth a try anyway.
When we applied for our visa a year ago, it said for 'high risk' countries that the time frame is up to 15 months.
Now we know we are at the last stage and are waiting on husbands country of origin to comply with character checks and yes, we know they are taking their time.
I was wondering if in the 15 month timeframe, do DIAC contact country of origin again when the 15 months is up to say 'Oi, move your bum and sort it' kind of thing?
Just wondering and if anyone knows anything, that would be nice.
Not that I am going mad or anything, you know I am quite good really and have only just started doing grafitti on the walls and drawing kangaroos and stuff, so I am quite sane. :more:

Sorry Sam, I really don't know.
What I suspect is that they have little say in the matter and are at the mercy of the particular countries redtape engine.

Thats what I thought Bix, just hoping on the off chance.

How long ago did you apply for the character check? It is a nightmare waiting for all the bits to come together but you will soon forget about it once you get here. Try to look at it as having a bit of extra time to spend with your Dad and enjoy your time with him. Other than that lots of wine and choclate seemed to help me :flowers:

We didnt apply for the character check, Aussie Intelligence apply to Algeria for it and once they do, it is out of all of our hands
There is noone we can contact or ask, we just have to wait.
Bloody hard though.
And I just thought I would add, whilst Im feeling sorry for myself, that I am getting my first cold in a year.
Forgotten what that feels like, anyway I have had a can of guinness for my sore throat.

Sounds like a nightmare PP :(
I hope you are feeling better and the guinness helped :D

Still got my bad throat/chest.
Bloody got tracheitis(?) now - sounds like croup when I cough.
I have never had a cold for so long in my life and its a mild comfort to know that several people have had the same thing in my work.
Called the doctor this morn and tried to get in as you cant book in advance.
'Got asthma, croup and a chest infection' I told them.
'No, Doctor has to go away at 11, ring next week for an appointment' I was told.
Bugger
I kept hoping it would clear and it hasnt and I have a voice like Bonnie Tyler.
Abdel said I could do sexy chat lines with my voice. :blushing:
Oh well, a day off work today and Im going to spend it online and stuffing my face with chocolates.
And still no sign of that visa.

That is one thing I don't miss about leaving the UK behind the flipping Doctor receptionists. I used to hate it if they said they couldn't see me until 2 weeks time so would I like an appointment usually I would reply "I would either be dead or better by then or is that your plan???"
At least here we get one usually within 15 minutes of ringing up and NO questions asked by the receptionist.
Eat plenty of chocolate, get pampered by Abdel and chill out over Easter, I hope you feel better soon. :flowers:

Well I am much better today after a very poorly Easter weekend. Nearly finished my antibiotics, although I couldnt climb the stairs in the station this morn as my asthma was bad - always is with chest infection.
Anyway, I am having a 'bad visa day' which I think should be a medical condition myself.
I feel so left behind with everyone making their plans and something else as well, it suddenly hit me that my pal Gobbyjock is going to leave soon. :(
It really hit me hard - how sad is that?
Gobbyjock calls me and we chat and have a laugh, weve met a few times and I consider her a good mate.
How selfish am I to feel really upset that she wont be in the same country as me? I know its only Australia, but I feel like Im losing a mate :blushing:
Which is why I am having my bad visa day, because if Algeria got their bloody finger out and communicated with DIAC, then perhaps I could book our flights to Perth.
Im sorry Gobbyjock if you are reading this, I am going to miss you like hell and its only just sunk in that you are going.
(Sam shuffles off embarrassed at outburst)

wow Sam, I can't believe that you are still waiting ! I remember that we both applied for our TRA at the same time.
I don't blame you for feeling down about it all but try and look upon it that you are blessed with some extra time with your dad :flowers:

Aaaw mate!! It only means I will be in Oz waiting for you to turn up!! You never know - the visa might come through soon - wouldn`t it be funny if we ended up going out at the same time!!

Ive just come online and read this message and its bloody started me off again.
Im trying to plan a trip to Devon to take a dog to its new home, so that is keeping me busy.
But I do wish DIAC would keep me busier.
Can you imagine Gobbyjock if we went on the same day, same flight?

Stranger things have happened in the world of visa's
It does get you down when you see everyone else around you making the move and you're stuck in visa limbo land :(
As GJ has said at least you will have a friendly face waiting for at the other side if your visa is later. It gives you something else to look forward to plus calls to Oz aren't that expensive anymore from the UK.
Sending you a  and a bucket load of luck for that visa turning up in time as I said stranger things have happened it feels like you aren't getting anywhere then BAM that visa is in your hands :D
