Title: Claiming Cash Back if You Have a Job???
Peter n Joan - February 18, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
:dunno: I am sure that I saw a thread in one of the many Forums that I have trailed through that said something along the lines of - If you have a job to start when you arrive in Aus you can claim back the costs of Selling your House and Flights to Australia!!
Has anyone heard of this?
It would sure be a nice lump sum back if you could and had a job to go to :)
If you consider the cost of selling a house is around £4000 plus £1000 for flight :ecstatic: ......
Hopefully I should hear about my Visa this week - all bonds paid now so just waiting for the CO to rubber stamp. :excited:

It may be that some employers will offer a 'relocation package' to gain certain employees but can't think of any other claim that you could make for a refund of relocation costs. Any idea from whom you were supposed to be able to claim back these costs?

I've had a good look but can't find it yet - it was maybe wishful thinking and a totally differant subject. :scratchhead:
I will keep llooking though cos now we have our VISAs

Unfortunately I believe it's one of the urban myths that we all would like to be true :)
The only time that will happen is, as PR says, when you get relocation costs from your employer. The Australian Government are never going to do that - could cost them a fortune. Yes they want certain types of people to migrate here but not that much

This is a reply from the resident 'Tax Expert' on another forum.
"a) the moving costs would be incurred before income is produced and therefore non-deductible; or
(b) are or a private and domestic nature and therefore non-deductible.
You could consider asking an employer to either pay for the costs of moving if you have already secured a position - or ask for them to salary sacrifice."
