Title: Hello from Adelaide
Tyke - February 11, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
Hello folks.
I've only just found this forum.
There seems to be so many these days.
Can I pull up a stool to the bar and join in??
We are ...............
Tyke (Russell),Mrs Tyke(Sheila),Little Tyke (my daughter) and 3 Bedlington Terriers (or terrorists as I nickname them)
We originally lived in Leeds,UK,where we have had several businesses.
We moved to Adelaide in May 2000 after a few fraught years trying to sell up and leave the UK.
We now live south of the city in Onkaparinga Hills on a small olive grove - a bit of a change to sunny Leeds.
We have given it a "Go" and it has worked for us,we even became citizens a few years ago.I know some people find it hard to live here and accept the changes but Adelaide is HOME to us now.We have made several visits back to the UK and it confirmed it.
We came with an open minded attitude with a view to completely changing our lifestyle and gaining new experiences. Some days we are like Tom and Barbera from the "Good Life" TV prog .
We do a number of things here for profitable gain (some only ...just make a living).
We did decide to buy a "Lifestyle" property and work from home - anything we do must fit into that criteria.
The olive grove just makes enough to pay most of the running costs of the house.
We have a Corporate gift basket company supplying gift baskets to several car dealers.
Also we invest/renovate/rent out property - that was scary at first!Much happier with that now.
Life ain't perfect here but it certainly is a huge change,we enjoy even the smallest new experience here.......Ooooo!!! look a Koala sat in the tree by the shed! Laughing
Hopefully I can share some of my experiences to make it easier fro newer arrivals or "Hopefuls" - I like giving back.
Well,I'll have a wander through the sub forums now and see what juicy gossip there is.
Pleased to meet you all.

Very hot pudding pans.
Equal mix of milk, eggs and flour.
Mix and let it stand in the fridge for a few hours.
Those pudding pans must be hot!!

Does she put in a lot of oil in the pans at first?

A fair bit - any excess will run out.
Better too much than not enough.
You do realize that I am sharing a family secret that goes back generations??

Yeah right  I used to make yorkshire puds by the bucket load and they all turned out perfect but nowadays they are pretty crappy :( so not too sure what I'm doing wrong that said my oven is pretty crappy as it usually burns the bottom and leaves the top raw  I can't wait for my new house and new kitchen :D

Hmmm.
We tend to use some of the left over olive oil from previous harvests.Perhaps that is the "special" ingredient??
BTW - I've 30 litres.
LOL

Blinking heck send some up to me :D
Pommygirl - February 16, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Jon found that skimming the fluff off the top of the mixture also helped make better Yorkshires.
They're still stoggy though ... I'm coming round yours Tyke.

Not your oven  It's the flour here, it's heavier.

I'm sort of getting there with my yorkies now. Taken a lot of experimenting though. I use less flour, a teeny bit of sr flour, a little bit of water as well as milk, and I put in an extra egg.

Hiya Suzer
It suprised me when I had notification to this old thread.
Yup - still loving Adelaide, especially with summer on the way.
Very much at home in Aus now,I've visited the UK a couple of times and it felt like Deja Vu - very odd and not settled.
Where in Leeds did you live - we came from Pudsey. :) :)
I think I've seen you in other forums too.

Yup, on a few forums and prob won't be able to keep people straight for a while. I lived in Armley, Kirkstall and another area I don't remember the name of...I was a student. Really enjoyed it there and have friends there still.
