In the QLD budget:
Queensland public servants, will benefit from a doubling of paid parental leave to 12 weeks and up to two years unpaid leave for either parent.
The beefed-up provisions, bring Queensland roughly into line with the Commonwealth and other states' public sectors.
The basic legislation only provides a minimum entitlement of up to 52 weeks' unpaid leave.
Statistics compiled last year by the Federal Equal Opportunity of Women in the Workplace Agency – which gathers information from companies with more than 100 employees – showed only 46 per cent of 1443 firms surveyed offered paid maternity leave, with 52 per cent of those offering six weeks or less. Less than a third offered paternity leave.
If you are self employed are you eligible for any state maternity benefit or do you have to make your own provisions?
Also, what happens after the baby is born, would it be the same scenario?
Are the fathers entitled to any leave, or does it purely depend on the individual employer?

I think the State only gives the $4,000 lump sum, plus any Family Tax benefits that may be applicable.
With Fathers, it does depend on the employer, but this is slowly becoming slightly more common.
