Title: Bra sizes
Bridiej - April 19, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
In the UK I was a 36B, but over here the sizes seem to be in dress sizes rather than 36, 34 etc. So I've bought a 14B which fits fine apart from the cups - it's like I'm spilling out of them and I dont exactly have a great deal up there anyway!
So my question is, are the cup sizes different over here or have my boobs just grown? :blink:

:D Now this is, indeed, an interesting question, Bridie! I can just imagine the blokes either fleeing from this thread in horror or making some 'smart' comments!! ;)
Technically the cup sizes are the same (you're not pregnant, are you?! :eek: ) The size 'numbering' in Aus has moved away from using inches since going metric though. Cup sizes can vary a bit depending on the material from which the bra is made, i.e. some materials have more 'give' in them than others.
According to an (interesting) article on the ABC (TV) site, "Cracking the science of undies", women are getting bigger busted.
Have a look at a couple of Aussie lingerie retailers, here or here, for size conversions.
I had a chuckle at the following piece of information shown at the first of those retailers' links:
Men Buying For Ladies
The easiest way to determine the size for your ladyfriend is to have a look in her lingerie drawer at the sizes she is currently wearing. This may not always be possible and if the thought of being caught browsing through her lingerie drawer put you off there is another easier method which surprisingly works quite well. Think of her bust as a piece of fruit. The equivalent fruit size matches the cup size you should buy:

<tr>

<td align="center">B Cup</td>
</tr>
<td align="center">Grapefruit</td>
<td align="center">C Cup</td>
</tr>
<tr>

<td align="center">D Cup</td>

Bridie,
Your theory is impeccable. I found the same problem so I went in Target or KMart and just tried on loads of different styles, all supposedly 14B. There were huge variations! Some fitted (eg Bonds) but others seemed to have been pre-shrunk :unsure:
Conclusion - don't buy without trying. Keeping to the same make is a waste of time - it's all about trial and error :cool: In the end I found a bra factory outlet where most 14Bs fitted me, so I stocked up. At $5 each :D

Thank you both of you. think I need to go do some serious trying on!!! <_<
I have noticed the same with clothes actually, I bought a skirt in a size 14 that fitted lovely (from Rivers outlet), went back a couple of weeks later and got one in another colour but had to get a 16!!! :angry:

On a slightly different topic... ;)
I went with my daughter and bought her some shoes recently, 3 pairs, size 1, 2 and 3 and they all fitted her !!
God knows how I will cope when she starts needing to buy a Bra. I think I will insist her mum helps with that one !!
I was going to comment on the original post, offering to check it out (as everyone knows, I am good with figures), but.. as I read the last 5 words, I decided to back out :)
The Triumph bra company have good warehouse sales in our area, I sat outside waiting patiently recently :D

Shoe sizes :wacko:
I took a UK 6 or Euro 39 for as long as I can remember. But here........ if you can find the size on the shoe, 6, 7, 8, 9 - could be anything! Takes ages to buy shoes :rolleyes:
