Title: Electricity Costs

ABCDiamond - April 17, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
Our last TWO years, quarterly, electric bills (Brisbane Bayside) have been:
18-Jun-04 $291.20
20-Sep-04 $312.30
13-Dec-04 $301.70
21-Mar-05 $325.30
09-Jun-05 $317.00
17-Sep-05 $326.40
14-Dec-05 $317.50
16-Mar-06 $425.75

Our average weekly cost was $22.16 when we only had 1 air conditioner in the main bedroom (2003).
This increased to $26.66 per week after we installed two more Air Conditioners (2005).

These costs cover all our cooking, heating and hot water, as we don't have Gas.

Some areas send bills out every two months, ours are every three months.

Bunbury, WA

26/10/05 - 15/12/05 - $50.83
15/12/05 - 20/02/06 - $68.95
20/02/06 - 03/03/06 - $11.45
03/03/06 - 15/03/06 - $15.19

Average monthly cost $29.25 (but I do work from home so I've got PC, two printers on the go all the time plus modem, and heating / cooling where required (no "proper" aircon though).

I have removed the account establishment fee that you have to pay when you move into a new property (rented or your own) which is $27.50.

forgot to ask, noticed a considerable jump in the latest bill compared to previous ones is this due to increased electicity prices or extra usage of air conditioners due to hot weather ? thanks again bobby & linda

The jump was mainly caused by having extra air con units installed.

We originally just had a 1hp unit in the bedroom, but had a 2.5hp unit put in downstairs for a living area.

Our actual usage went fom 2,438kwh to 3,128kwh for the last 2 quarters.
A 28% increase in use for a 34% increase in price. It did however co-incide with a price rise from 12.1c to 12.87c per average unit.

I also just remembered that our Electric bills include about $23 for the ambulance levy, which is not really Electricity.

We use 1hp units in the bedrooms, they cost about $500 to buy and $300/400 to install. And we have a 2.5hp unit in a main living area. These cost from about $1,000 with about $700 to install.

You can get full ducted systems for small houses for about $7,000 fully installed.

Our units are reverse cycle, (as all should be), and we use them to heat in winter.

Now you have me working :D :D

We use both Tariff 11 and Tariff 33
Last quarter we used:
11 = 2,478kwh @ 13.497c
33 = 650kwh @ 8.107c
plus quarterly fee of $15.53 (based on 91 days)
I got my average 12.87c from the total bill divided by total usage ;)

Tariff 33 is the overnight tariff that the hot water system is hooked up to, and provides enough hot water for 3 morning showers, (1 of which often lasts 20 mins !!!), and other normal usage. We never run out of hot water during the day.

Tariff 11 is the normal 24 hour service for the rest of our power needs. One PC on 16 hours a day, 3 TV's, and 3 DVD's on standby 24hrs a day, plus all cooking needs. Oh yes, a few ceiling fans running almost all the time, and lights, loads of lights !!
:D

for the overnight tariff 33 rate is there any special needs or facilities fitted to your house hold water set up or basically can anyone just use this system if required

The electrics have to be set up by Energex, but I think that most houses will already have it.
We have two meters that they read. The tariff 33 one is connected purely to the Hot Water tank, and the On/Off timing is controlled by Energex.
