Right, I think it's time we had a talk about the Horus Heresy. It comes up everywhere, and seeing as this is a Depot for 40K knowledge, we have to talk about everything. So here is *my* view of what happened.
Horus went bad, attacked earth and got stabbed through the chest. The end.
Now, really what happened:
Horus, Emperors greatest child, had fallen to chaos. Whilst ill on the world of Davin, he became possessed by a daemon. Horus spread his ideas to his Space Marines and the ones under his command, and then to the Adeptus Mechanicus members also under his control. This was unknown to the Emperor and the Inquisition. Half the titans fell to his control and almost half of the Marine Legions. Once the Emperor found out, the inquisition went through the Adeptus Mechanicus and fighting broke out. Only the Titans on Earth stayed loyal to the Emperor. War broke out between and on planets and many split from the Imperium. The Emperor sent 7 chapters to kill horus, 4 were traitors and destroyed the other three on the landings on Istvaan V (Horus' Command Centre).
Horus then moved in for Earth with 9 legions and most of the Adeptus Mechanicus. It took 30 days to reduce the Earth defences and dropped troops around the Palace. By the 55th day, the siege had moved to the inner walls of the palace.
The Emperor then detached himself from the astronomican, a sign that the end was near, and teleported onto Horus' ship, which had lowered its void shields as a challange to the Emperor. Horus used his powers to split the forces arriving on his ship and seperated Sanguinius to his throne room. Sanguinius was asked to join Horus, but turned him down. Horus then killed Sanguinius. The Emperor arrived to find Horus standing over Sanguinius, and began a fight to the death. The Emperor killed Horus, but was wounded himself and placed into the Golden Throne to this day (or their day).
Thats what I know, can anyone fill in any more?
